The Perfect hair oil for winters:


The cool breeze, warm sunshine and the vibrant winter palette makes us fall in love with the winters and the best part about winters is cozying up with hot and delicious cuisines. Likewise, our hair also needs some extra nourishment to ward off chilly winters. Here is the perfect treat for your hair:




Make a perfect cocktail by blending a combination of:
  • Mustard oil
  • Almond oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Olive oil
Take equal quantities of these oils and mix them together. Apply the concoction (lukewarm) from roots to scalp and massage your hair thoroughly for 15-20 minutes and wash your hair the following morning, using a mild shampoo.

This magical potion can work wonders for your hair as it helps in stimulating hair growth, combats hair fall, prevents premature graying of hair, strengthens hair follicles, restores the bounce of  hair and treats dry and damaged hair making them look long, thick and lustrous.

5 tips to get straight hair naturally:



Do you want to flaunt your silky straight hair???

You needn't shudder at the idea of hovering around salons, spending hours on harsh chemical treatments to get straight hair. A few home therapies can definitely straighten your hair in a natural way. Just give your hair these home treatments and find yourself with silky straight hair that you have just seen in your favorite shampoo commercial!!!


1.    Coconut milk and lemon:

Coconut milk is an excellent way to push the frizzy hair making them straight. Take a glass full of fresh coconut milk and squeeze few drops of lemon into it and refrigerate the mixture for some time until a creamy layer is formed on the top of it. Apply this cream on your scalp and entire length of hair thoroughly. Cover your hair with a hot towel for 10- 15 minutes follow it up with a hair wash using a mild shampoo. Repeat this process once a week to get straight hair naturally.

2.    The Milky Way:

Milk treatment is another way of straightening your hair. What you need to do is to fill a spray bottle with (1/2 cup) milk. Wet your hair and let them dry before moving to the next step. Now, using the spray bottle spray milk all over your hair and leave them to dry for 15-20 minutes. Wash you hair using a mild shampoo followed by conditioning. Finally rinse off hair with Luke warm water and leave the towel on for 5 minutes then remove the towel and let your hair dry naturally. This method will add substantial amount of moisture to your hair leaving them smooth and straight.

3.    Luke warm oil:

Oil nourishes and hydrates your hair making them lustrous and straight. Apply Luke warm oil (you can choose coconut oil, olive oil or any other oil of your choice) on the scalp and hair properly and cover your hair with a warm towel for 20-30 minutes. Now wash your hair thoroughly using a mild shampoo and keep your hair covered with towel for few minutes. Remove the towel and let your hair dry naturally.

4. Milk and eggs:

Treat your hair with milk and eggs to get healthy and glossy straight hair. Comb your clean and dry hair using a wide toothed comb to get rid of tangles. Whisk an egg and add 2 cups of milk in it. Apply the mixture over your hair (for 30 minutes) and wrap a plastic cap over your hair (to retain the moisture). Now wash your hair using a mild shampoo, leave on the towel for few minutes and let your hair dry naturally.


5.    Fuller’s earth (Multani mitti):

Take 1 cup fuller’s earth (multani mitti); 5 tablespoons of rice and 1 egg white. Mix all the ingredients well and add some water to form a loose paste. Cover up your thoroughly with this pack and brush your hair down 2-3 times using a wide comb (the idea is to keep your hair as straight as possible). Let the pack dry which can take around 40 minutes. Wash it off properly with water to get silky, smooth and straight hair.

How to get rid of split ends:



Every woman desires to have long, healthy and beautiful hair but, erratic lifestyle and carelessness can bring on so many hair problems which can deform your hair, split ends is one of them. There can be various causes of split ends like lack of nourishment /dry hair, use of harsh chemical products, damage due to sun rays, hair styling equipments and pollution. Split ends can definitely be treated at home with some simple and easy remedies.

Home Remedies for split ends:

1.     Papaya and yoghurt:
Papaya can make your dull and dry hair alive. All you need to do is, take 1 cup papaya dices and blend it into pulp. Add ½ cup yoghurt to the papaya pulp and mix them well to form a consistent paste. Apply the mask onto your hair properly. Leave it on for half an hour and rinse it off.

2.     Milk and milk cream:
This is my grandma’s tip for split ends. You need half cup raw milk and 1 tablespoon fresh milk cream, mix them well and apply this in your hair from roots to tips. Leave it on for 15 minutes and wash it away.

3.     Honey and yoghurt:
Honey has great moisturizing properties which help in nourishing split ends. Take ½ cup yoghurt, mix 1 tablespoon honey in it. Cover your hair strands with the mask (concentrate on split ends). Leave it for 30 minutes and rinse it off.

4.     Beer:
Beer works as a wonderful conditioner. Apart from a boozy party element, Beer can also be an effective element in your hair care range. Massage your hair with some beer (make sure your hair follicles have soaked the beer) and wash it off after 5 minutes (bear in mind there would be lingering smell of bear in hair).

5.     Olive oil:
Massage your hair with Luke warm olive oil to treat split ends. Leave it on overnight and shampoo your hair the following dawn. Olive oil helps in deep conditioning of hair.

6.  Egg:
Beat 1 egg yolk with 1 tablespoon almond oil. Massage your hair with the mixture from roots to tips of hair. Leave it on for an hour and wash it off.


Some tips to head off split ends:
  • Don’t brush your hair when they are wet.
  • Avoid using blow dryers and other styling and heating equipments.
  • Don’t wash your hair with hot water.
  • Split ends are generally witnessed in dry hair nourish your hair regularly with coconut oil, almond oil or any other oil.
  • Use a mild conditioner after the shampoo.
  • Get regular haircuts or trims.
  • Protect your hair from pollution and sun damage.
  • Avoid using harsh chemical products.

Home remedies for dandruff:



Dandruff is an infectious condition, it occurs due to bacterial and fungal infection. It leads to formation of scales on the scalp hence causing frequent itching and the worst part is, you have to stay clear of dark colored dress as dandruff is embarrassingly noticeable on dark shades. It is better to treat dandruff  or flaky scalp with natural home remedies than harsh chemical based products.

7 Home remedies to treat dandruff:

1.     Apple Juice:
Massaging your scalp with apple juice helps in fading away dandruff.

2.     Fenugreek (methi) seeds:
Soak a fistful of fenugreek seeds in water overnight. Next morning, filter the seeds with sieve and grind them to a paste. Apply the paste on your scalp for half an hour and rinse it off. This hair mask fights against dandruff.

3.     Beetroot juice, Vinegar and Ginger juice:
Mix beetroot juice, vinegar and ginger juice in a bowl. Apply the solution on your scalp with the help of cotton balls for half and hour and wash it away.

4.     Lemon juice, sugar and water:
Squeeze a lemon in a bowl add 3 tablespoons of sugar and 2 tablespoons of water in it. Apply the solution properly in hair roots using cotton ball for an hour and rinse it off.

5.     Coconut oil and camphor (kapur):
Add camphor in coconut oil and massage your hair roots properly with it. Leave it for 1 hour and wash it away using a mild shampoo.

6.     Onion juice and lemon juice:
Apply the mixture of onion juice and lemon juice in hair roots properly using a cotton pad.

7.     Olive or sesame oil:
Massage your scalp properly using your fingertips with Luke warm olive oil or sesame oil before bedtime.

Some valuable suggestions:
  • Brush your hair daily as this promotes blood circulation inside the scalp (be gentle while brushing).
  • Don’t share towels, combs or hair brushes as dandruff is infectious.
  • Wash your hair regularly (thrice a week) to get rid of excess oil and keep your scalp clean.

How to prevent premature graying of hair:



The best solution to prevent premature graying of hair is Indian gooseberry (AMLA).

  • Mix ½ cup amla powder with water to form a thick paste (paste should be thick enough that it does not drip). Apply the paste to your hair using hands or rubber gloves (rubber gloves are not necessary as amla doesn’t stain). Be gentle; don’t rub the paste into your scalp. Leave the paste for 10-15 minutes and rinse it off with water.

Treat your hair with amla once a week to prevent premature hair graying.

1.     Regular Oil massage:
Massage your hair regularly with Luke warm oil. You can choose coconut oil/olive oil or mustard oil for the massage. Keep the oil throughout the night and wash your hair the following morning. Oil massage renders strength to hair and promotes blood circulation.


2.     Nourish your hair before every wash:
Always nourish your hair before taking head bath. You can use oil, raw milk or curd to nourish your hair.


3.     Avoid brushing wet hair:
Don’t brush your hair when they are wet as hair roots are weakest when they are wet.


4.     Stay clear of excessive styling and heating of hair:
After the hair wash let your hair dry naturally, avoid blow drying. Hair straighteners, curling irons and other heating equipments weaken the hair and can lead to its breakage.
