Cosmetic Lounge: Difference between BB, CC and DD creams:

These days cosmetic counters are bombarded with a confusing array of skin correctors and you may feel caught up in the swarm of the alphabet creams-like BB cream, CC cream and DD cream. To find out which one is appropriate for you, let’s decode these cream acronyms:

BB:
BB stands for “beauty balm" or "beauty benefit".
It offers daily sun protection, extra hydration and coverage just like a lighter foundation.

CC:
CC stands for "color control" or "color corrector" or "complexion care".

Like the BB cream, this one too offers benefits like hydration, sun protection and coverage but with extra quality of homogenizing your skin.

Difference between BB and CC creams:
CC creams are meant to address issues like redness and sallowness but BB creams are like a lighter foundation (with some skin care benefits thrown in).
A CC cream is lighter on the skin as compared to BB cream and has more of a whipped, fluffy feel and finish.

So, you can say that CC cream is an upgraded version of BB cream.

DD:
DD stands for “daily defense".
Like its predecessors, it offers sun protection, hydration and balances uneven skin tone, though DDs are created for dry areas like feet, knees and elbows.

Now, as you know what these cream acronyms are all about and the purpose they serve. I am sure it will be easy for you to select the one.

Wedding make up essentials: Bridal make-up kit

My friend is getting married in a month, she asked me to go for marriage kit shopping. Although every girl loves shopping specially make up but trust me marriage kit shopping is not an easy job, you come across so many questions like what is the basic stuff to be bought and which brand to go with. Here I am going to share our shopping haul so that you can have an idea about what are the make up essentials for a bride-to-be.

Here is what we bought:

1.  Lipsticks and lip gloss:
For lipsticks we concentrated on “Colorbar and Revlon”. We kept a mix of light and bright shades mainly according to her dresses like onion pink, purple and other earthy colors. It is must to include 1-2 red or maroon lipstick in your bridal kit so we did.

2.  Nail paints:
Just like lipsticks we bought few shades that match her dresses specially one matching the wedding dress and the preferred brands were “Maybelline and Colorbar”.

3. Eyeliners:
You must pick a basic liquid liner with black or brown color. I recommended her a blue one along with black one as blue eye liner gives you a sensuous look. And the brand we chose was “Lakme”.

4.  Lip pencils:
Pick one neutral shade lip pencil and one in red in case you wear red lipstick. You can go with “Colorbar and Lakme”.

5.  Mascara:
Make sure you choose the one which is waterproof and you can pick “Maybelline Colossal Volume Mascara”.

6.  Blush:
Pick up at least one matte blush and one shimmer blush and our preferred brand was “Lakme” you can also choose “MAC” (one with pearly finish looks great on camera).

7.  Foundation:
Foundation is the base of your makeup, do invest in good foundations. Go for a matte foundation exactly same in shade as your skin tone.
Note:
  • Don’t buy foundations lighter than your skin tone.
  • Make sure you don’t choose the one with illuminating particles as these particles would reflect light and make your skin look greasy in pictures.

You can go with “Mac”.

8. Concealer:
Concealer is a must have in every makeup kit to mask a mild redness or a childhood scar and keep you looking flawless. Again our prefence was “Mac”.

9. Sindoor:
And not to forget the most important element for an Indian bride as Deepika padukone says in a movie- “Ek chutki sindoor ki kimat tum kya jaano Ramesh babu.
The one we chose was “Lakme liquid sindoor”.

10. Eye shadow:
If you don’t like wearing too many eye shadows go for eye palettes rather than single shades. You can choose “Colorbar eyeshadow palettes”.

11.  Compact:
You will definitely need a compact for touch ups and regular use. The brand we chose was “Mabelline Whitestay UV compact”.

12.  Make-up brushes:
You can buy a travel brush kit or individual brushes (that is totally upto you), but bear in mind foundation brush, blush brush, eye shadow brush and a powder brush are must haves.

13.  Others:
  • Purchase a vanity kit to keep all your makeup stuff.
  • Choose a regular face wash that suits your skin and an exfoliating scrub.
  • Definitely keep basic moisturizers one for your face and one for your body and a lip balm too.
  • Do pick up sponges, cotton swabs, blotting sheets, make-up remover and nail paint remover.

With this your wedding make –up kit is complete.

How to apply eyeliner:

Step1: Rest the elbow of your dominant arm on a hard surface and your wrist on your face.

Step 2: Slightly tilt your head back and keep your eyes half open:
This creates a good angle for application at the same time allowing you to see what you are doing.

Step 3: With your left index finger (in case you are right handed) or right index finger (in case you are left handed) gently pull your eyelid to the side and slightly up, toward the end of your eyebrow.
This step is optional as stretching the eye may encourage wrinkling that’s the reason some people prefer to line relaxed eye.

Step 4: Draw a line across your upper lid (as close to the lash line as possible).
Note:  In case you are using liquid liner allow it to dry before opening your eyes (else the color may transfer into the crease of your eye).

Step 5: Gently smudge the line with your brush, a cotton swab or your finger (to soften the look).

Step 6: Line the lower lid:
Moving from the outside edge inward draw a line (close to the lower lash) slightly thicker at outside corner and becoming thinner as it moves in toward your nose.

How to apply lipstick:

When it comes to make-up, lipstick is the crucial element to enhance our looks. This guide is going to teach you how to get good-looking lips regardless of size and shape of your lips.

Step 1- Exfoliate your lips:
Make a paste, using sugar and water. Rub the paste on your lips for 20 seconds and rinse it off. Smear some lip balm on your lips to moisturize your lips.

Step 2- Apply lip liner:
Lipstick lasts longer if you define your lips using a lop liner. Go for a lip liner 2 shades darker than your lipstick.
  • For plump lips, apply lip liner just outside your natural lip line.
Step 3- Apply lipstick:
You can directly apply lipstick onto your lips from the lips but it is easier to get the right amount on and in the right place using a brush (make sure the lip brush is clean, dry and already there is no lipstick on it).
  • Start from the middle and fill in the whole lips with color within the lip line (using the brush).
Step 4- Apply a second layer:
After adding the first coat, apply a little more if desired but remember greasy lips are unattractive and tend to rub off easily onto everything.

Step 5- Blot the lips:
Blot your lips to make your lipstick last longer. Simply blot your lips using a tissue paper.

Step 6- Lip gloss:
Add a little lip gloss for the final touch. Dab a little gloss on the center of your lips and spread it out.

Step 7- Reapply lipstick:
Reapply lipstick every few hours as no matter how brilliantly you have applied the lipstick, it will fade through the day.

Eye make-up in just 7 steps:

Step 1- Prepare your eyes with concealer:
Apply concealer (matching your skin tone) to cover dark circles and even out skin tone around  your eyes. Start with applying 3 dots of concealer with your fingertip under both the eyes, apply at the inner corner first (where the skin tends to be darkest) then under the pupil and finally at the outer edge. To spread the concealer pat it (don’t rub) with your ring finger (as this finger as softest pad) until it disappears.

Step 2- Apply base to your eyelids:
To make your shadow last for hours apply a base to your lids. If you don’t prime your lids properly your shadow may end up as a greasy line.

Step 3- Apply eye shadow:
It’s a great idea to use a three toned shadow.

  • Start with a medium color, sweep the shadow across the lid. You can pick medium pink, light brown or any other middle of the hue.
  • Follow with a light color; sweep the shadow across the lid and up to your brow bone. Brush on pearly off white, light gold or other delicate colors.
  • Apply a dark color on the crease. Try a violet, brown or other dark colors matching the first two colors.
Blend the colors using or fingers or fluffy, tapered blending brush.

Step 4- Brighten your eyes with a highlighter:
To brighten your eyes dab a finger into lightest eye shadow and then press it into the inner corner of eyes where an upper lid meets the lower lid.

Step 5- Follow with eyeliner:
You can use liquid eyeliners or liner pencils, even dark eye shadow works as great eyeliners (Wet a slanted brush and then dip it in a dark shadow). Whatever you pick- starting from the inner corner of your upper lash line to the outer corner. If you want, you can line your lower lashes as well.

Step 6-Curl lashes:
Use an eye lash curler to grip your upper lashes. Half close your eyes to make access to the eyelash easier. It’s better to curl lashes before applying mascara.

Step 7-Apply mascara:
Place the wand of the mascara brush at the base of your upper lashes and slowly sweep upwards. For the dramatic effect, apply mascara to the lower lashes as well. If you want to apply multiple coats make sure you apply the subsequent coat when the first coat is still wet (applying a fresh coat to the dry mascara may result in clumps).
